Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has highlighted the significance of community engagement and participation in immunization programs. Represented by the Deputy Governor, Barrister Sam Ode, Governor Alia stated that vaccines are not just shots, but shields that protect children from preventable diseases and ensure a brighter and healthier future.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony of the 2025 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) Campaign at FSP Clinic, Kwararafa Quarters, Saturday in Makurdi, the Governor lauded the dedication of healthcare professionals and volunteers. He expressed gratitude to partners, including the Federal Government, WHO, and UNICEF, for their collaboration in making the campaign possible.
“Your unwavering commitment to the health of our children is truly commendable. We appreciate your efforts, and I assure you that the Benue State Government stands with you in this endeavor and will in due course increase the Health Workforce to meet the requirement of the Minimum Service Package for Health Care delivery at Primary Health Care Level”
The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Yanmar Ortese, emphasized that immunization boosts children’s immunity against diseases. He disclosed that 98 Primary Health Care Centers are being revitalized across the state to improve healthcare delivery.
The Executive Secretary of the Benue State Primary Health Care Board, Grace Ashiver Wende, highlighted the critical role of immunization in safeguarding children’s health.
She acknowledged the hard work of healthcare workers and requested increased human resources for health at the primary healthcare level.
With 2,087 teams comprising health workers and adhoc staff trained across 276 wards, the campaign aims to vaccinate every eligible child.
The event featured goodwill messages from traditional rulers and development partners, underscoring the importance of immunization in promoting public health.
