Niger Gov pledges support for polo

Niger State Governor, Umaru Bago, who also serves as President of the Minna Polo Club, has assured the club of his administration’s unwavering support.

The Governor gave the assurance when he received the club’s management team, led by 1st Vice President Mohammed Babangida, Monday at the Government House in Minna.

Governor Bago emphasized that polo is a unique sport that his administration is committed to promoting and developing. He revealed plans to renovate the existing polo club and construct a new, world-class facility. The Governor congratulated the club on its recent victories in various competitions.

Earlier, Mohammed Babangida expressed condolences on behalf of the club to the Governor, as President of the Minna Polo Club, following the passing of 2nd Vice President, Daniel Clifford Shashere and renowned polo icon Alhaji Dawule Baba. Babangida also appreciated the Governor’s consistent support, which has enabled the club to participate in and win several tournaments nationwide.

The club’s leadership informed the Governor about an upcoming polo tournament in Minna in July 2025, followed by the Annual General Meeting. Special prayers were offered for the repose of the departed souls while a trophy won by the Minna Polo Club at a tournament in Port Harcourt was presented to the Governor.
