The Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (TSIEC) has fixed November 15, 2025 for the Chairmanship and Councillorship elections in the state. TSIEC Chairman, Dr. Phillips Douwe, made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Teachers’ House in Jalingo.
According to Dr. Douwe, the election date was determined by the impending expiration of the current local government chairmen and councilors’ tenure in October 2025. He emphasized the need for timely elections to usher in new representatives and avoid caretaker committees.
Dr. Douwe assured stakeholders of the commission’s commitment to delivering credible, free, and fair elections, with both TSIEC and the state government providing a level playing field for all participating political parties.
The TSIEC Chairman also promised to issue election guidelines in accordance with constitutional provisions and appealed to stakeholders to support the electoral process to ensure a successful exercise.
Taraba State comprises 16 local government areas, 168 council wards, and 3,600 polling units.
