The Resident Pastor of NKST (Universal Reformed Christian Church) Iortyer in Iortyer-classis, Rev. Dr. Akpen Leva, has outlined some great signs and fearful sights of the last days to Christians, urging them not to be swayed by the events but instead look to the overarching purpose of God during these turbulent times.
Speaking to his congregation on Sunday during the holy communion and sacrament service for the month of June, which also witnessed infants’ baptism and several other activities at the Church Auditorium under the theme “The Last Days”, Rev. Leva, who is also the Synod Executive Committee Member 1, told them to stand firm, be more prayerful, and continue to rely on God without being shaken.
Reading from the Gospel according to Luke 21:11, where Jesus gives a snapshot of hardships and unusual occurrences that will become rampant during this time, the former Benue CAN Chairman maintained that earthquakes, wars, famines, diseases, hunger, dearths, and all we are witnessing today are not new but the fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecies.
“Our Lord Jesus Christ forecast all the events that are unfolding today. The Bible does not hide anything from us, so as Christians, we don’t have to panic about these happenings because there is coming a time when more tragedies will strike. The essence of this program is to encourage Christians to remain faithful to God in all circumstances, like Job.”
He tasked Christians to be committed to serving God, irrespective of various unfortunate incidents they might have been experiencing on a daily basis, in order to survive the terror, pit, and snare that await unbelievers during the second coming of Christ to judge the world, citing Isaiah 24:17-20.
The clergyman also made another reference to Revelation 16:17-21, saying the coming of Jesus and the final judgment will put an end to all these calamities and pave the way for the kingdom of God to usher in everlasting peace.
