…Calls for Public Vigilance
An Elder Statesman, Gen. Lawrence Onoja (Rtd) has appealed to Nigerians to support Government at all levels to combat insecurity in the country. Gen. Onoja, a former Military Governor of Plateau and Katsina States and a former Chief of Staff, State House as well as one time GOC, 3 Armoured Division, Jos bared his mind recently in a statement.
The retired General acknowledged the prevailing economic hardship in the country and appealed to the citizenry to support and be patient with President Bola Tinubu as he works hard to reposition the country. He added that though, the fuel subsidy removal and floating of the Naira amongst other policies have come with hard impact on the people, it would yield dividends in the near future by developing a productive and stable economy as the hard times is a passing phase. He applauds President Tinubu for demonstrating the political will and courage through his reforms which he noted is laying a solid sustainable economic foundation.
On insecurity, Gen. Onoja stated that security is a collective responsibility and urge Nigerians to be vigilant in their various communities and report suspicious activities to the security agencies. He commends the Nigerian Armed Forces for their patriotic efforts in combating insecurity and called for more support for the military especially through provision of useful information by communities to sustain their tempo against bandits, terrorists and other non-state actors adding that the issue of insecurity has become dynamic globally and Government is seriously fighting the menace. Onoja sympathized with the military and families of 17 gallant soldiers who recently paid the supreme price as well as the injured personnel while fighting bandits in Kwana Dutse Local Government Area of Niger State.
He further called on Nigerians to focus on issues that unite the nation as the country’s ethnic and religious diversity represents strength and potentials. Onoja currently serves as the Chairman, Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa State and also a part-time Senior Lecturer with the University of Abuja Leadership Centre in Theory of Civil-Military Relations and Military Studies.
