The Nasarawa State Government has announced the disengagement of 1,000 teachers previously recruited by the State Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC), with effect from June 30, 2025 due to irregular recruitment.
The Executive Chairman of the State Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC), Mr Timothy Kasuwa, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Monday in Lafia.
According to him, the decision was made after the outcome of a comprehensive screening exercise for teachers recruited under the previous management of TSC.
He explained that the State Government had initially approved the recruitment of 1,000 teachers, but the previous TSC management exceeded the mandate, recruiting 4,243 candidates.
Kasuwa noted that only 781 candidates out of 4,243 screened were found to be genuinely qualified for employment.
The press release stated that Governor Abdullahi Sule has increased the initial recruitment figure from 1,000 to 1,500 teachers, aimed at further bridging the human resource gap in the state’s education sector.
According to the document, the Chairman said government has therefore directed that the remaining 719 positions out of the approved 1,500 teachers be filled through a transparent and merit-based recruitment exercise.
“The 719 available positions will be open to all eligible and qualified candidates across the State, and the recruitment portal will be made accessible for fresh applications once all formalities have been concluded.
“We commend the patience and understanding of all stakeholders, particularly affected candidates, and reaffirm our commitment to building a more efficient and credible public service system.
“The future of our children is non-negotiable, and we will continue to take all necessary measures to protect and strengthen our education system.”
The Chairman however said that those who have been posted and rendered services in various schools will receive their full entitlements and benefits, while those who were not posted will be adequately be compensated.
“We remain resolute in our drive to reform the education sector by prioritising competence, fairness, and integrity in recruitment processes.
“Only those who meet the set standards will be entrusted with the responsibility of shaping the future of our children,” he said.
