Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has urged the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state to leverage on the vast natural resources in state to become economically vibrant.
Sule made this call on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch A Stream II orientation exercise in Keffi Local Government Area.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mr Yakubu Kwanta, Governor Sule congratulated the 2,335 corps members for completing their orientation exercise without any major issues.
He urged them to utilise the state’s fertile lands for agriculture and tap into its mineral resources to become self-reliant.
“Nasarawa State is agrarian in nature blessed with fertile lands suitable for cultivation of different crops for both domestic consumption and export.
“Similarly, the state is blessed with not less than 90 percent of mineral resources found in Nigeria.
“As you will be posted to your various communities, therefore, it is my hope and expectation that you will appreciate the abundant resources in our various localities by utilising the opportunity to develop them and make yourself economically vibrant,” he said.
The governor also praised the corps members for their patriotism, dedication, and spirit of service, urging them to be ambassadors of hope and catalysts for progress in their host communities.
He, therefore assured the corps members of his administration’s statutory responsibility to their welfare, security and general well-being, even as he urged them to embrace their postings in good faith as they have been doing in line with the posting policy of the scheme and the felt needs of the state.
On her part, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Salamatu Muhammad, commended the corps members for their discipline and participation in various activities during the orientation exercise.
“Over the past three weeks, these corps members have participated in drills, lectures, value orientation, sports, leadership training and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program-equipping them with skills for self reliance,” she said.
She appealed to corps employers to mentor and ensure the welfare of corps members posted to their establishments.
