The wife of Nigerian President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Thursday donated N1 billion and 1,800 bags of 25kg rice to be distributed to victims of attacks and less privileged persons in the state as part of her humanitarian services to alleviate economic hardship faced by citizens.
Making the Presentation to the Governor of Plateau State, Barr Caleb Mutfwang, for onward distribution to affected persons, the First Lady of Nigeria explained that the N1 billion donated to Plateau State is a gift from an individual to fund her pet project, and not government funds.
Speaking on insecurity in Plateau State, Mrs. Tinubu said her heart bleeds each time she hears news of attacks and killings anywhere in the country, urging traditional rulers to work with governors to end the carnage.
Mrs. Tinubu pledged to visit Benue and Niger States on a similar gesture, given the killings and devastating flood that recently claimed several lives and destroyed infrastructure in the two states.
On her part, wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, on behalf of the President’s wife, presented 1,800 bags of 25kg rice to be distributed to persons with disabilities and other less privileged persons in the state
According to the Vice President’s wife, the First Lady’s pet project, Renewed Hope Initiative, has presented food items as intervention to the 36 states of Nigeria, including Benue State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. She said the Renewed Hope Initiative had made donations of N500 million to each state of the federation, including Abuja, and explained further that they had so far visited 19 states and presented cheques.
Earlier, while welcoming the wife of President, Governor Caleb Mutfwang said she has a passion for uplifting humanity and bringing succor to the less privileged across the country.
Speaking in appreciation for the sum and food items donated, Governor Mutfwang assured that he would ensure that the targeted persons receive what is due to them.
The Chairman of the Traditional Council of Chiefs and Emirs in Plateau State, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, represented by Miskhagam Mwaghavou John Putmang Hilse, told the First Lady to persuade the President to end killings in Plateau State.
During goodwill messages from representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the COCIN President, Rev. Dr. Amos Manzho; Chairman of Jamaatu Nasir Islam (JNI), the Emir of Wase, Mohammadu Sanbo Haruna; and Prof. Lahila Gowon, who spoke on behalf of women in the state, all appreciated the wife of the President for alleviating the suffering of Nigerian citizens through her pet project.
