Nasarawa United Football Club has made a flying start in the 4th edition of the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Tournament 2025 with a resounding 5-0 victory over Si14 FC on Friday.
The Solid Miners dominated the pitch from the early stages of the game, with Chidera Nduka opening the scoring in the 21st minute with a well calculated free-kick and Mubarak Hussaini doubled the lead in the 33rd minute with a ferocious shot to end the first half 2-0 for Nasarawa United.
Hostilities resumed in the second half, with Omolaye Abiodun and Umar Adah scoring in the 46th and 50th minutes respectively, only for Tochukwu Miracle own goal in the 81st minute sealed the win for Nasarawa United, ending the match 5-0.
In a post-match reaction, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, expressed gratitude to Governor Abdullahi Sule for hosting the tournament.
“We thank Governor Abdullah Suleman for accepting to host this edition of the competition. We are happy and excited that Governor Sule has shown the world that he is a sport-loving Governor,” he said.
The Governor, represented by the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Hon.Yakubu Kwanta, said, “We are privileged to host this tournament. Our administration is committed to developing the sports sector. We have a peaceful environment that guarantees the safety of the participants.”
On the upgrade of facilities at the Lafia City Stadium, the Governor said, “The Nigeria Football League is starting soon, and we have already taken preliminary measures to upgrade the pitch and also carry out a general overhaul of the stadium to meet international standards.”
On his part, the State Chairman of the Football Association, Alhaji Salisus Galadima, appreciated the state government and the NFF for staging the competition in the state and pledged the support of the FA to ensure the success of the competition.
