Benue State House of Assembly (BSHA) has given the Management and Technical Crew of Lobi Stars Football Club, Makurdi three Matches grace to improve performance or be sacked.
The House, Presided over by the Speaker, Hon. Hyacinth Dajoh took the decision when Management of the Club led by the Chairman, Dr. Philip Nongo appeared on Thursday at the Hearing Hall, Makurdi.
The House called on the management to solve the issue of divide and rule among them as well as create greater synergy for the up lift of the Club.
Commenting, Member representing Makurdi South, Hon. Douglas Akya said, the Management of the Club are not in unity, leading to the poor performance of the Club.
On his part, member representing Konshisha State Constituency, Hon. Cephas Dyako explained that, Football is entertainment but more as a business that attract turnover and wondered why the club is not performing with the huge financial commitments by the state government.
“If the Club is not performing well, it is better to fire the Management as well as the Technical Crew”, Hon. Dyako stated.
Majority Chief Whip of the House, Hon. Peter Ipusu expressed dismay over the poor performance of the Darling Benue Football Club and called for the firing of both the Management and Technical Crew for the poor performances.
Members representing Makurdi North and Buruku Constituencies, Hon. Alfred Emberga and Abraham Jabi lamented the poor performance of the Club. They however, urged the House to give a grace of three Matches to savage the downward performances of the Club.
Answering questions from members, the Chairman of Lobi Stars Football Club, Makurdi, Dr Philip Nongo said, he and other members of the management took over the affairs of the Club 7th September, 2024 with commitment to uplift it to win laurels for the State.
Dr Nongo stated that, when he took over affairs of the Club, players were owned three months salaries while the new management paid .
He disclosed that, there are saboteurs who are fighting the progress of the Club at their home ground in Lafia, Nasarawa State, saying management is doing everything possible to ensure strong support from the people of Nasarawa State who are not happy with the sack of the former Management Team.
Dr Nongo further pointed out that, management is doing everything possible to address the indiscipline and misbehavior of players as well as go for new players in the January, 2025 transfer market to enhance performance of the club.
