The Chaplain of the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Makurdi, Reverend Father Clement Ugoh, has called on Journalists in Benue State to promote unity in their reportage to foster harmony and development.
He made this appeal on Monday during a thanksgiving mass at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Makurdi, following a health walk by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as part of their Easter celebrations.
Reverend Ugoh emphasized the importance of journalists using their potent voices to build and uplift society. He urged them to promote unity by organizing sports activities, picnics, or outreach programs to strengthen relationships with communities. He stressed that journalists play a crucial role in achieving peace and development in the state.
The Chaplain advised journalists to maintain professionalism and integrity in their work, saying, “Say the truth and shame the devil.” He encouraged them to be fearless in the discharge of their duties, highlighting that they a crucial role in showcasing the progress and development of Benue State.
Reverend Ugoh also cautioned journalists against accepting inducements to promote false narratives, emphasizing the need for balanced reportage. He urged them to remain true to their conscience and accurately reflect the state of affairs in Benue to those who have not visited.
The Chaplain reminded journalists that their roles determine their rewards and encouraged them to strive for excellence in their profession.
