Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has inaugurated an Economic Advisory Council aimed at revitalizing the state’s economy and dispelling its reputation as one of the poorest states. The Governor stated this Monday during the council’s formal inauguration at Government House in Jos.
The council, comprising local and international economic experts, will provide periodic advice on economic policies to improve the state’s economy. Governor Mutfwang expressed his administration’s commitment to changing the narrative that Plateau State is economically disadvantaged and urged the council to diligently deliver on its mandate.
In his acceptance address, the council’s Chairman, Ibrahim Buri, pledged to fulfill the council’s mandate while cautioning that the government should be prepared to make tough decisions based on the council’s recommendations. Buri thanked the Governor for the appointment and assured that the council would be open to suggestions, providing both short-term and long-term advice.
The Chairman highlighted the economic potentials of the state’s 17 local government areas and requested the involvement of some cabinet members in the advisory team.
Earlier, the Secretary to the Government of Plateau State (SGS), Architect Samuel Jatau, emphasized the significance of the Economic Advisory Council, stating that its inauguration marked a milestone in the administration’s efforts to reposition the Plateau economy for long-term growth and prosperity.
