Sack JDA Caretaker Committee now, Group Calls

The Jahr Patriotic Forum, a group based in Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, has demanded the immediate dissolution of the Jahr Development Association’s (JDA) caretaker committee, citing its prolonged tenure.

Led by Hon. Dayyabu Garga, a former council chairman and titleholder of Jahr chiefdom, the group made the call on Monday during a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Plateau State council in Jos.

Garga stated that the caretaker committee had exceeded its mandate, saying, “We find it unacceptable that the current committee has overstayed.”

The group urged the Ra’an Jahr, the paramount ruler and Grand Patron of the Association, to dissolve the committee and establish a new one with a clear timeframe for elections.

Garga also addressed allegations of eviction, denying the Jahr Patriotic Forum’s involvement in a letter to the Plateau State Governor.

He described the Jahr people as peaceful, despite recent skirmishes, and expressed trust in the government’s efforts to address insecurity in Kanam.

Garga praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s initiatives to combat terrorism, banditry, and other crimes, stating, “No Governor in North-Central Nigeria has invested as much energy and resources in containing these threats.”

The Deputy Chairman of Kanam Local Government Area, Aliyu Ali, and Saudana Jahr showed solidarity by attending the press conference.
