The ongoing internal crisis between members of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) DCC Kano and its national executives over the creation of a new District Church Council (DCC) has persisted. The affected members have rejected the proposed three-day fasting and prayers as a means of resolving the issue.
In a press statement issued on Saturday, the protesting group, led by Elder Isa Sule Maigona, described the call for fasting as a mere deceit. The statement reads: “More worrisome is the needless call for a national 3-day prayer and fasting, especially when the issues and situations were created by the same leadership.”
The group accused the ECWA leadership under Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat of promoting deception, impunity, and disregard for laws and scripture. They recalled that they had previously rejected the creation of a new DCC in Kano and staged a peaceful protest at the ECWA headquarters in Jos.
The aggrieved members demanded that the General Church Council (GCC) investigate the alleged unconstitutional employment of relatives and associates at the ECWA headquarters and business outfits. They also called on like-minded members to intervene for a lasting solution.
The group’s demands include: mmediate suspension of all decisions made at the 72nd GCC regarding Kano DCC until the court rules, full compliance with the court order of April 15, 2025, accountability for ECWA leaders who acted in contempt of court and violated the Constitution, reaffirmation of constitutional governance, biblical leadership, and procedural justice in all ECWA affairs, and the immediate removal from high office of any leader under unresolved moral investigation
They expressed surprise and called on the ECWA General Church Council to take immediate action against leaders who failed to uphold their oath of office as enshrined in the ECWA Constitution and Bye-Laws.
