The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has emerged the overall winners of the 5th edition of the Federal Education Sector Games (FEDUGAM-2025), which ended on Saturday in Lafia, Nasarawa State.
FME carted away 19 gold, 18 silver, and 8 bronze medals to clinch the top spot.
The National Examinations Council (NECO) placed first runner-ups with 13 gold, 17 silver, and 17 bronze medals, while the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) won 3 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze medals to occupy the second runner-ups position.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, represented by Prof Ibrahim Ogiri Hassan of Federal University of Lafia, highlighted the importance of FEDUGAM in fostering unity, synergy and friendship among agencies of the Federal Ministry of Education and their state counterparts.
He said, FEDUGAM serves as a platform to enhance the physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing of participants.
“We are grateful to the Nasarawa State government for their warm hospitality and cooperation throughout the event.
” We are equally grateful to the Federal University of Lafia for graciously making its world-class facilities available for us throughout the duration of the games. Your contribution has been central to the smooth conduct of conduct of all sporting activities.
“To our athletes, contingents, and officials from participating agencies, we say a big thank you. Your dedication, discipline, sportsmanship, and unwavering spirit have been truly inspiring,” Alausa said.
He, therefore congratulated medal winners for their hard work and perseverance, encouraging all participants to see themselves as winners for their courage, teamwork, and commitment.
In his remarks, the Chairman of FEDUGAM, Dr Saeed Yusuf, represented by Deputy Chairman, Mr Olapade Suleiman, expressed gratitude to God for the successful conduct of the games.
He commended the Minister of Education for his commitment to sports development within the ministry saying” We express our gratitude to our innovative honourable Minister who has shown special interest in sporting activities in terms of commitment of resources and creating enabling environment where sports loving staff can exhibit their talents”.
The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Yakubu Kwanta, represented the Director, Administration and Supply, Helen Madaki, thanked the organisers for choosing the state as host.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to sports development at all levels.
