The Benue South Zonal Commander of the Benue State Community Protection Guards (BSCPG), Williams Agada, has urged his officers and men to remain steadfast in defending their fatherland despite the frequent loss of comrades in the fight against insurgency.
Speaking on Wednesday in his office in Otukpo, Benue State, Commander Agada lamented the recent loss of two officials, Eric Igoche and Justice Akatu, in insurgent attacks by suspected armed herders. He described their loss as “one death too many.”
However, he appealed to his men not to be discouraged by the incident but to be emboldened by their zeal to protect their communities against invaders and external aggressors. “We have no other home besides Benue,” he emphasized.
Commander Agada appreciated the sacrifices made by his officers and men, noting that many have suffered physical and psychological trauma, including losing their lives while fighting well-armed criminals with locally fabricated guns.
The Commander appealed to the relevant authorities to allow the outfit to use heavy weapons to confront criminals adequately and avoid unnecessary loss of life. He also charged residents to be security-conscious and report suspicious movements to law enforcement agents for prompt action.
“If you see something, say something, and if you hear something, say something,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in safeguarding lives and properties.
