Bukola Olopade, the Director General of the National Sports Commission NSC has said the Commission is determined to restore Nigeria to its former glory in global sports.
Olopade made the assertion in an interview with journalists at the ongoing 22nd Ogun 2024 National Sports Festival NSF tagged, “Gateway Games”in Abeokuta Ogun State. He said, “the Commission led by Shehu Dikko is keen on regenerating Nigeria’s sports sector through initiatives that will see athletes competing favourably with their counterparts in global sports tourneys”.
The DG who said Nigeria was abound with talents but was lacking the infrastructure in sports, explained that the facilities provided by the Dapo Abiodun administration for the Ogun 2024 Gateway Games would enhance the development of sports in Ogun state and Nigeria at large.
The Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee said the Commission was keen to organizing competitions to not only discover new athletes who are talented but to also help in honing them to excel internationally.
Olopade disclosed that the initiative to invite Junior Athletes was one of the programmes put together by the NSC aimed at priming young athletes for future international competitions. He stressed that, “the Commission is already initiating other programs that will keep the athletes in constant competitions and exposure”.
And while urging the private sector to partner the NSC towards achieving lofty heights at international sports, lauded the various states at the ongoing National Sports Festival for their peaceful conduct and encouraged them to sustain the tempo. He assured that the games will be a memorable one that would be remembered as the best in the annals of the NSC.
